Sigiriya, or Lion Rock, is an ancient rock fortress and palace built by King Kashyapa during the 5th century. It is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can climb to the top via a series of staircases, passing by the famous frescoes of the Sigiriya Maidens and the giant lion paws that guard the final ascent. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding jungle and the remains of the ancient palace complex.
